Huinay Huayna, a well preserved Inca site not far from Machu Picchu

Huinay Huayna (Wiñay Wayna), near the Inca Trail

It is very well preserved Inca site along the Inca Trail, very close to the ruins of Machu Picchu.

You can take a beautiful view of the houses that are not very often visited by travelers, being only accessible from the Inca Trail (to which access is strictly limited by the Peruvian authorities).

Few people speak about it, but it's beautiful. Not many make the effort to hike the Inca Trail, but it's worth the effort!

If you want to visit Huinay Huayna, then you must travel with an agency on the Inca Trail, you cannot reach it any other way.

The complex is located in the side of a mountain and is incredibly well preserved. There's also a waterfall behind it.

Only 10 minutes away from the nearby "Trekker Hotel", you will find it easy to explore, get back and eat, rest and then start all over again, if your team of trekkers has enough time...

This spot is also very good for photographers. Not only for immortalizing the ruins, but also the landscape around it.

In Quechuan, Wiñay Wayna means "Forever Young". You will see the name of the site written also as "Huinay Huayna", which the way the Spanish initially wrote about it. Both terms are correct, however the Quechuan variant is more often used.
